In 1983, the other kids used to bring Apple II software to school. I recall Aztec, and Dino Eggs, but Stellar 7 was the coolest by far, and the first 3D computer game i experienced. I never lost interest in 3D games, and i never lost interest in Stellar 7.
In late 1984 I bought my 64. I looked in vain for Stellar 7, but it was not until several years later that I learned that a 64 version even existed. I am not sure when it came out, and I never found a copy.
Fast forward to 1996, when I bought a box of old stuff from a neighbor imagine my excitement at discovering Stellar 7 sitting in a box of wares it turned out to be a good conversion and still fun.
Enter the present, and the SuperCPU the program was unplayable on the SCPU and several delay loops were no longer effective. The program was also split into many separate files, and was wedded to drive #8. In addition to fixing up these problems i added a speed selector pressing + and - during the game will change the game speed. I am aware of cheat modes in the MS-DOS version, but I did not find any in this version.
Although old, I believe the game is quite enjoyable, and I am happy to have done this adaptation. I conclude with a short message included with the game:
Stellar 7 took over one-and-a-half years to write. It is available on the Commodore 64 and the Apple ][. Stellar 7 is written entirely in machine language. The 3 dimensional animation is handled by 3-space, a high speed 3D graphics package.
There are tenative plans to write a sequel, entitled "nova9: the revenge of Raf Torin".
I hope you enjoy Stellar 7
